Hong Kong regulators are investigating insider trading allegations involving at least two staff members from HKEX (00388.HK) and the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), as well as brokers and financial commentators, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.

It is understood that the probe centers on whether regulatory personnel from HKEX and the SFC leaked information in recent years to traders and others about upcoming announcements from dozens of listed companies.

Sources disclosed that some of the leaked announcements related to privatization deals over the past few years, though the companies themselves might not be directly involved in the investigation.

The probe is said to have been ongoing for several months already and could take years to conclude, with no guarantee that charges will eventually be filed.

A spokesperson for the SFC declined to comment on the investigations as per the SFC policy. HKEX also refused to make any comments.
