BYD COMPANY (01211.HK) exceled Tesla (TSLA.US) in April sales in Europe for the first time. BYD charted sales of 7,231 BEVs in Europe last month, while Tesla recorded 7,165 units, based on data from research firm JATO Dynamics. Although the sales gap between the two brands was not immense for the month, it cast an evident impact, marking a "watershed" for the European automotive market, the research institute revealed. This is especially noteworthy considering Tesla has been leading the European BEV market for many years, while BYD only began operations outside Norway and the Netherlands at the end of 2022.
